Michele de Meo: Curriculum Vitae






Born in 1941 and resident in Rome since 1955. In 1965, he received his Juris Doctor Degree (with honours) from the University "La Sapienza" of Rome. He has been enrolled with the Rome Bar Council since 1967 and he is holding the right of audience in the Supreme Court since 1983.

From 1966 to 1985, during his university career - centred on shipping and aviation law - he conducted studies and research at the University of Rome (Italy), University College London (England), Salzburg Seminar in American Studies (Austria), Southwestern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas (USA) and City of London Polytechnic (England). Assistant Professor at the University of Rome and Professor at the University of Viterbo, he holds lectures and courses in aviation and shipping law. Since 1985 he has continued to be active in the academic field by participation in conventions and publications. At present is teaching Alternative Dispute Resolutions.

He began his professional career in Rome (1965 - 1970), continued in London (1967 - 1968), and then returned to practise in Rome from 1968 onwards. He specializes mainly in non-contentious work, drafting contracts and preparing legal opinions in the field of hijacking; air transport "security"; construction of hotels, theme parks, industrial plants, minefields, motorways, bridges, merchant ships and cruise ships; the buying and selling of share portfolios, real estate, aeroplanes and boats. He also has experience in litigation and international arbitration in the same fields. He is Arbitrator and Mediator with the Moscow's International Association for Arbitration and Mediation of the Russian Federation and with other Institutions.

He is the promoter of "The Rome Association of Transportation Lawyers" and of "The Association of Friends of the International Development Law Organization" (IDLO) of Rome. He is the co-founder of the "Marevivo" Association. He is the promoter of "the Italian Society for the Mediation of Disputes" SIMED (www.simed-italia.com).

He is a member of "Fondazione Roma" since 1988, of the International Bar Association (London), of "Rotary International Rome West" and he is a member of "Nuovo Circolo degli Scacchi", Rome.

He also speaks English, French and Spanish.
